What has happened to the meaning of cynical? I’ve always understood it to mean that someone distrusts the apparently pure motives of others. And the definitions I can find agree. But lately, more and more, I’ve seen it used to describe people who truly operate under those motives that real cynics ascribe to them. That’s not cynicism, that’s assholedom. Or douchenozzery.
